After receiving the treasures of the conquered lands in Madinah, Omar ibnul Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was asked: "Shouldn't you (now) cover the Ka'bah (in Makkah) with silk?" He replied: "The stomaches of the (poor) Muslims are more deserving".
Priorities! Priorities! Priorities!
Buhari should go and feed the millions of IDP families starving especially in the North East, rather than 'subsidizing' pilgrim costs when we all know half of the money is going to end in official pockets!
Only few days ago, it was reported that "an estimated 50,000 children are facing death by starvation in northern Nigeria this summer as a result of the Nigerian
government’s faltering campaign to defeat Boko Haram Islamist militants, aid agencies are warning. Aid experts say the humanitarian crisis caused by the seven-year conflict between the Nigerian military and Boko Haram militants has left an estimated 500,000 people homeless in northern Nigeria, the majority of whom are in urgent need of food, shelter and medical care."
And yes, I am aware some other people may have collected the 'pilgrimage dollar bonanza' in the past. I dont care. The dictates of my religion are very clear;"
And Pilgrimage to the House in Makkah is a duty that humankind owe to Allaah, for those who can afford the expenses( conveyance, residence and feeding)"

This is absolutely a case of misplaced priority by PMB's gov't. Very insensitive I say😡
Religion remains one of Nigeria's biggest problems. We have become so religious to the point we have become of no earthly good, hard hearted and totally impervious to the plight of the poor in our midst.

If the presidency have done this for Businesses / Farmers it will reduce inflation and hardship on the masses. This why I love Jonathan's Regime, every body as saying bad economy yet no one was hungry, food was every where Rice was cheap and subsidized while Agriculture of same was put in place. Now there is hunger every where, businessess are crumbling, what of unemployment and crime. Any one who still supports this Administration is never truthful am sorry to say.

@Ayo sounds like the arithmetic is wrong: N380 minus N197 equal to N183 multiply by nos of pilgrims 65167 equal to 11,925,561...th is is 11.92Millon Naira not billion not even dollar. Social net workers una dey try ooooo!

Priorities! Islamic teachings are very clear on priorities but many people (including some Muslims) are unfortunately still muddled-up.
1. Hajj is for those who can afford it, or for those who can afford to sponsor others (not using other people's money, in this case tax-payers' money)
2. Muslims are required to pay their debts first before going for Hajj
3. Prophet Muhammad SAW advised that a worker must be paid before his sweat dries (our government is struggling to pay salaries and pensioners and contractors)
4. IDPs are in need of urgent assistance; the Quran gives explicit instructions on upholding the rights of those who are disadvantaged in the society (the poor, orphans, homeless, slaves [perhaps equivalent to slave-labourers and those earning below minimum wage today]. Islam teaches addressing ones obligations first before attending to optional duties.
5. Islam commands Muslims to stand up for justice even if it's against themselves or their relatives. I understand El-Rufai stopped Hajj sponsorship in kaduna state last year.
We call on the government, politicians and the people of Nigeria to do what is right (stand up for justice and fairness) and not just follow tradition (sharing the national cake in whichever way the can!)
The government should just focus on implementing social security fund for every Nigerian based on their needs. Then those who wish to go on pilgrimage can save up to fund their trip!

The FG/CBN goofed. Hajj is a personal decision. In as much as government can give palliatives, I don't think hajj is in that category for now. Don't politicize Islam. It is even more rewarding for pilgrims to contribute all that money and use it to help the devastated Muslims in the IDP camps than the hajj. May Almighty Allah guide us aright.

Brethren, it may not be easy to defend President Buhari's policies but the truth is that Nigeria was already in ICU before his arrival. He has a big dream for the country but he is not physically in charge. ..soft landing for the President would mean a lot!
