Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba made
headlines at the Afcon press conference in Mongomo, when he refused to
answer questions posted to him in English
After learning that the Algerians conducted their presser earlier on in
the day in French and Arabic to the South African media, the Bafana boss
showed that two can play that game, as he conducted their own presser
ahead of the two country's meeting in Group C of the Afcon finals
tonight in IsiZulu, a stunt that infuriated Algerian media.
"This is the Africa Cup of Nations and I speak the language I understand," the City Press reported Mashaba's comments to the media in South Africa.
It's believed that he did this not only after what the South Africans encountered but to confuse the opposition too, so that they don't understand their mentality and approach heading into the tie this Monday evening.
Caf officials, who were the ones conducting the presser, blamed the chaos on the local organising committee of the Afcon in Equatorial Guinea, for failing to organise translators for the press conference.
The organisers have promised to have translators available for the post-match conferences after both the matches in Group C in which Ghana and Senegal will go up with one another, and of course the Bafana Bafana and Algeria game on Monday night.
