This film is based on a true life story. It is an historical film about how a free black man in white man's land was tricked, kidnap and re-sold into slavery for 12years.

In my own opinion, the story is too straight forward with less suspense. I only saw the agony the man went through before he regains his freedom back but I see a lesson in it.
Fine, anyone can fall for the offer given to Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiorfor) but may be if he had told his boss whom he served earlier before accepting the offer, he wouldn’t have end up in another slavery.
I see the reason why Lupita Nyong'o deserve the award given to her. “12 Years A Slave” is the second movie have watched her acted and she really tried.
I like the part where Boss (Brad Pitt) was telling the white that about the way they are treating the slaves that they should know that they are human being.
In this century, most blacks enslave blacks most especially in Africa. Once you are not educated or you are educated but you don’t know your right.
For the fact the film is an historical movie, it deserve to be kept in my movie room.
