UPDATE: VMAs stage manager Gary Hood phoned in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Monday to weigh in on Minaj's quick-change issue. "I wasn't immediately next to her, but we rehearsed that [song], obviously, in the dress. And actually the same thing happened in the dress. She didn't quite make it. I mean, each of the performers had about two minutes...There just wasn't enough time for her," he said.

Seacrest noted that Minaj is known for her spontaneity and wondered if she might flash the crowd on a whim. "Like I said, when we rehearsed in the dress that afternoon, same thing," Hood said of her zipper issue. "She came up clutching the top of her costume. So who knew? Anything could happen with her."

Nicki Minaj avoided a majorly embarrassing moment when she opened the MTV Video Music Awards with Ariana Grande and Jessie J Sunday night. After finishing her solo "Anaconda" performance, Minaj joined the divas for "Bang Bang." While they danced, she clutched the front of her cleavage-baring LBD.

"You all know I had a wardrobe malfunction," the rapper yelled to reporters backstage.

The YSL-clad star added, "We ran out of time getting the dress zipped up."

Minaj further explained her style slip-up via an Instagram caption early Monday morning. "God is good. As long as a nipple didn't come out to play, I'm fine," the hip-hop star, 31, told her 7.8 million followers.
