Freddy Adu Joins 11th Club in 11years

'The Future of American soccer', 'the next Pele', 'Championship Manager legend' - these were just a few of the monikers Freddy Adu used to go by. At 14 years of age, the one time American wonderkid became the youngest ever athlete to sign a professional contract in the US, when DC United drafted him in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft.
After his two year stint with DC came to an end, Adu moved to Real Salt Lake briefly before joining Benfica after an impressive showing as America's captain in the U20 World Cup. His spell in the Portuguese capital was punctuated by a series of unsuccessful loan spells however, with Monaco declining to take Adu on a permanent deal, before he made his way to Belenenses (where his loan spell was cut short), Aris in Greece and Turkish second division outfit Ã‡aykur Rizespor.
A return to the MLS with Philadelphia Union and his former DC coach Piotr Nowak promised a possible resurgence in fortunes, but after two years in Pennsylvania, Adu suffered the indignity of being swapped for Manchester United wonderflop Kleberson, as he headed to Bahia in Brazil. His time in the Samba state was also short lived, as he embarked on a tour of Europe, failing trials left, right and centre, including one at Blackpool. On December 21st last year, FK Jagodina of Serbia cut short the one time wonderkid's 18-month contract short, leaving 'the next Pele' without a club. However, he has finally found a new club after signing for Finnish side Kuopion Palloseura.
