Moyes: I banned Chips At Man United As Players Were Overweight

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed the reasons behind his decision to ban chips during his time at the club.
Moyes, who is now the boss of La Liga side Real Sociedad, was sacked as the manager of United last April after a disastrous first season in charge. The Scot only lasted 10 months and the Red Devils finished seventh, which saw the club fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 1995-1996 season.
After leaving his job, some players complained that the former Everton boss didn’t allow them to eat chips, while former United defender Rio Ferdinand revealed that Moyes made the team train in a public park ahead of their Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
However, David Moyes has now revealed to FourFourTwo that he did ban chips, but rejects Ferdinand’s “public park” comments.
“Yes, I did ban chips. It was because a couple of players were overweight and I didn’t think chips were good for their diet.
“We went to prepare on the morning of the game as we would always do. It wasn’t in a public park.”
And the former Manchester United boss also denies saying that United should aspire to be like their city rivals.
“I’d never say that. I may have said that we aspired to play like one of the teams at the top when we weren’t at the top, but I’d never say that Manchester United should aspire to be like Manchester City. I don’t think that’s something any United fan would aspire to.”
